12 August 2013 - Moldova aims to cover 20% of its energy needs with renewables by 2020. The country has drafted a National Renewable Energy Action Plan, which focuses on renewables to increase the security of energy supply, to enable long term sustainable development and to reduce climate change. Moldova aims to upgrade its thermal power capacity and to integrate the Transnistrian capacities.

The country plans to develop 400 MW of renewable capacity (mostly from wind), through auctions; renewable producers would benefit from a guaranteed price for selling their electricity over 15 years and (inflation-indexed) price ceiling would depend on the technology and size of the renewable plant. Moldova estimates at €250m necessary investments to reach a 10% target.
