[에너지신문] 26 April 2016 - The Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) has suspending the licensing process for the proposed 8 GW São Luiz do Tapajós dam project on the Amazon River in Para, citing concerns over negative impacts on the regional communities.

The project would flood a vast area and force 10,000 Munduruku people to be displaced. It is developed by Brazilian power utility Eletrobras and the company filed the Environmental Impact Study and its accompanying report (EIA-RIMA) in August 2014. Eletrobras aimed to commission the plant within five years after having started the tender process and having been granted the instillation license but the company may be delayed by the IBAMA decision and by declining electricity consumption forecast.
