[에너지신문] 18 January 2016 - The Federal Court of Brazilian state of Para in Brazil has suspended the operating license for the 11,233 MW Belo Monte hydropower project on the Xingu River in the Para state, a few weeks before its operator Norte Energia planned to start power generation. According to the court, the licence will be suspended until Norte Energia and the Brazilian government meet a previous licence requirement to reorganize the regional office of Funai, the national Indian protection agency (initially to be carried out in 2014).

The highly controversial dam in the Amazon is developed by Norte Energia, a consortium of national power utility Eletrobras, Cemig, Neoenergia and Vale, and has already been delayed by several years
