[에너지신문] 07 March 2016 - Polish oil and gas company PGNiG is considering buying coal assets to secure coal purchase portfolio, to take advantage of the current low prices.

The company is mulling taking over a specific coal mine, signing a long term contract for coal supplies or both.

The group is the largest Polish producer of heat and electricity from cogeneration from coal, through its PGNiG Termika subsidiary. The company accounts for 11% of heat production in Poland (70% of heat demand in Warsaw) and for 65% of the electricity supply in Warsaw through five CHP plants that produce an average of 3.7 TWh/year of electricity and 12 TWh/year of heat. In 2015, PGNiG Termika produced 36 TJ of heat (-1.1%) and 3.5 TWh of electricity (-1.9%).

In 2015, PGNiG produced 1.4 Mt of crude oil and condensate (+18% thanks to a 59% rise in Norwegian production; Polish oil production dipped by 3.1% to 765 kt) and 4.6 bcm of gas (+2.8%), including 4 bcm in Poland. The group imported 9.3 bcm of gas (-3.8%), sold 23 bcm of gas (+24%) and distributed 9.8 bcm of gas (+2.5%).
