[에너지신문] 22 December 2015 - The Constitutional Court of Colombia has suspended operations at the 400 MW El Quimbo hydropower plant that was commissioned in November 2015 by Emgesa, a subsidiary of Spanish energy group Endesa.
The Administrative Tribunal of Huila had requested Emgesa to stop operations, considering that the company had breached the Environmental License as Emgesa had not removed the biomass and plant residues in the area of the dam in order to avoid contamination of the Magdalena River before starting operations. Emgesa had announced that it would appeal the decision.
The company will now be forced to proceed to the biomass removal to resume power generation for the US$1.1bn project.
