[에너지신문] 01 September 2014 - The Italian government is considering removing local public utilities from the control of local authorities to create national companies. Regional governments and municipalities control more than 8,000 service companies, including about 1,500 local utilities; the government aims to cut the number of service companies to 1,000. Public waste management companies would be required to list at least 60% of their capital on the stock market or to sell a minority stake to an industrial partner, while smaller utilities would be incited to create larger companies through mergers. Regional utilities A2A, Hera or Acea were formed through mergers and now account among the largest utilities in Italy. The proposition needs to be approved by the Cabinet to issue a decree, to be approved by the parliament within 2 months.
